Plastic made from sugarcane? How we’re reducing our environmental footprint

Did you know millions of tonnes of plastic ends up in the ocean every year? The situation has got so bad that unless something changes we are on course to have more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050! This would mean even more damage to marine wildlife and even more chemicals in our waterways.

Sugarcane before it’s turned into plastic!

Here at incognito we have always prioritised sustainable solutions, and we were awarded a Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development in 2015 which reflected this. Recently, we have upped our green credentials even
further by packaging our new Second Skin range in carbon-capture renewable plastic derived from sugarcane (the production of which removes more CO2 out of the atmosphere than it emits). This is a sustainable and 100% recyclable material that represents eco-innovation at its finest! The production of 1kg of our sugarcane plastic prevents the release of 4.6kg of carbon dioxide entering the environment.

Spectra have helped us make the bottles, which contain no difference in SeparatePacksappearance or performance to more traditional forms of plastic, developed from finite raw materials like oil and natural gas & creating a huge environmental footprint. Furthermore, unlike regular biopolymers, which can’t be recycled without damaging the recycling chain, Spectra’s new biopolymers are totally recyclable in the same stream as conventional HDPE and PET.

One of the reasons we moved to this more sustainable packaging is because as Louise Edge, senior oceans campaigner at Greenpeace UK, has said: “If we’re going to protect our oceans we need to end the age of throwaway plastic… Companies need to move away from single-use plastic, embrace reusable packaging and make sure the rest is made from 100% recycled content.”

If you hpexels-photo-286951aven’t already, check out our new Second Skin range which launched in April; a trio of unique products that revolutionise the way we protect, cleanse, and moisturise our skin. We have newly reformulated our Hair & Body Wash  and Mosituriser, to contain even more organic ingredients, & are registered with the Soil Association as COSMOS natural, nourishing your skin and protecting the health of the planet. Also in the trio is our long anticipated tri-action sun cream insect repellent. Packed with natural and organic ingredients, these products will help shield you from insect bites… and much more!
